*Environmentally & Socially Responsible Both Globally & Locally.
*Farmers around the world grow hemp. Legally. Hemp is NOT marijuana!
*There are over 25,000 different products that could be made from hemp in oil, seed or fibre form.
*Hemp is considered a perfect crop to offset carbon currently produced by fossil fuels.
*125 years ago, 70 to 90 percent of all rope, twine, cordage, ship sails, canvas, fibre, cloth, etc., was made out of hemp fibre. Hemp was replaced by Dupont’s then newly discovered petrochemical fibre (nylon) beginning in 1937. Hemp was then banned in the USA under the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937, in a blatant case of mistaken identity. Industrial hemp was banned along with it.
1 acre of hemp will produce as much as 2-3 acres of regular cotton.
*Hemp is 4 times warmer than cotton, 4 times more water absorbent, has 3 times the tensile strength of cotton. It is also many times more durable and is flame retardant.
*Hemp improves the soil quality as it grows, requires no herbicides, and is naturally resistant to insects, fungus and other pests. Hemp is gentle on the land and is among one of the oldest industries on our planet.
*Hemp grows rapidly, becoming tall and thick. It suppresses weeds, shades and mulches the ground. Hemp reaches a height of 10-12 feet during its short growing season of less than 5 months. It also leaves a weed-free field for a following crop the next year or planting season.
*Hemp can reduce our use of synthetic textile fibers. Synthetic textile fibers are not biodegradable, generate pollution in their production, and are made from non-renewable petroleum.
*Hemp can displace cotton which is usually grown with massive amounts of chemicals harmful to people and the environment. 50% of all the world’s pesticides are sprayed on cotton.
*Presidents Washington & Jefferson both grew hemp. The federal government subsidized hemp during the Second World War & U.S.farmers grew about a million acres of hemp as part of that program. The bark of the hemp stalk contains fibers that are among the Earth’s longest natural soft fibers, which are rich in cellulose. Hemp fiber is longer, stronger, more absorbent and more insulating than cotton fiber.
Why Organic Cotton?
Regular cotton is one of the most pesticide intensive crops grown. Organic cotton is grown without pesticides, saving run off into the local water shed and the health of the workers picking it.
Why Hemp is so Great for Clothing
Hemp fibers are characteristically strong & durable and among the longest natural soft fibers in nature. Hemp fibers are biodegradable and have insulative qualities similar to wool. Wearing hemp clothing in summer, you will stay cooler and stay warmer in the winter, in addition to the UV protection provided.
More Hemp Facts:
*Although hemp and marijuana are both from the cannabis species, hemp contains no THC. In fact, if hemp and marijuana cross polinated, the marijuana THC content would be reduced, not an increase of THC to the hemp plant. The only high you will get from hemp, is from promoting a far superior plant for our planet.
*Hemp paper can be recycled 10 times whereas wood-based paper can only be recycled twice without losing integrity and requiring additional virgin fibre content.
*China, the world’s first paper maker, used hemp to make paper 1,900 years ago.
*Both the Gutenberg Bible (15th C.) and the King James Bible (17th C.) were printed on hemp-based papers.
*In 1776, Thomas Jefferson, a hemp farmer, wrote the first two drafts of the Declaration of Independence on hemp paper.
*Henry Ford, constructed a car of resin stiffened with hemp fiber and even ran autos on ethanol made from hemp. .
Today, it still illegal to grow hemp in the United States of America.
